"All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." ~ Picasso
- Dance in your living room
- Color; use coloring books or plain paper, doesn’t matter
- Change your scenery (take a walk, move to a different room, write outside)
- Play an instrument; if you don’t have any, pull out the pots and pans.
- Take art classes at Michaels or Hobby Lobby
- Skip instead of walk
- Make jewelry
- Walk barefoot in the grass
- Change up your clothing
- Wear different colored socks
- Visit an art museum
- Purchase and read The Artist Way and Workbook by Julia Cameron
- Wear a fun scarf or eccentric glasses
- Paint or draw a picture
- Arrange flowers
- Listen to a new style of music
- Paint ceramics
- Walk in a fountain
- Sculpt something magnificent with Play-do
- Rearrange your furniture
- Paint a wall
- Try a new hairstyle
- Look at a book about weaving, making batik, woodworking, or some other master craft
- Collect leaves
- Photograph flowers
- Make a collage
- Make a My Heart book: collect pictures from magazines, etc that touch you in some way. Don’t think about it. Don’t use your brain, just your heart. Paste them into a journal.
- Paint, draw and color, Scriptures and prayers. Use collage or other art techniques with this.
- Spend fifteen minutes examining a leaf, flower, bug, shell, or some other piece of Art created by The Artist.
- Sit in total silence and see where your mind goes.
- Bird watch
- Play. Pretend to be a countess from Eastern Europe. Imagine you are the only person for miles. Pretend your house is an island. Pretend you are a superhero, rock star, or famous dancer. Play! (This may work best for you when you are alone)
- We were most creative when we were children. Make a volcano out of your potatoes. Pretend broccoli are trees. Be a giant.
- Get a copy of Wreck This Journal and use it.
- Collect coloring books, and use them
- Turn off the TV for a week (if you can get away with it)
- Build something with a hammer, nails and scrap wood.
- Get up early and watch the sunrise; count the colors, then close your eyes and count the different kinds of sounds you hear.
